One of the funny things in my house is when you really get to my wife and you hear her say “Whatever!” You know that you have taken her to the place where she doesn’t have anything to say back. We have a great friend named Josh Reinke and this guy knows exactly what to say to Michelle to get her going and eventually she will say “Whatever!” and then he goes on with something else. You see he knows that he has pushed her to the place where there is not fight left and she is just saying “Whatever!” Well I think that for those of us that are followers of Christ it is the best place to be! You know where you just say “Whatever!” Because then that is when we are really going to see Jesus work. The “Whatever!” takes us out of the picture and we are usually the problem in the first place. Or there may even be a real problem maybe there is an area of sickness, addiction, hurt, pain in a relationship, loss of a loved one and all you keep trying is not working. Then I challenge you to say “Whatever!” and let Jesus take control.
Romans 4:5 (Msg) But if you see that the job is too big for you, that it’s something only God can do, and you trust him to do it—you could never do it for yourself no matter how hard and long you worked—well, that trusting-him-to-do-it is what gets you set right with God, by God. Sheer gift.
You see the “Whatever!” should not be out of frustration, anger, or hurt. It should be because you see that God is the only one that is going to be able to make things right. That He is the only one that is going to be able to handle your issue in life. So the thought that I want us to have is maybe this week when you feel that you are in a situation that you just don’t understand or just can’t handle then I challenge you to think “Whatever!” and place it in God’s hands. To be honest I pray that each morning we start out saying “Whatever!” it might just make the day a little different.
So to the financial upheaval “Whatever!” To the political anger in this country “Whatever!” To the wars that are going on this world “Whatever!”
Lord I say “Whatever!” so that I get out of the way and let you do what is needed in this world, lead me to the place where I will serve you more and share your grace and mercy to others. So that one day they might have the freedom in their life like I do to say “Whatever!”
