Music Monday

Michelle and I love to listen to Diana Krall when the kids are in bed and we are able to relax and enjoy our time.  This is has been one of those areas that we truly knew was important for us to keep for us to be able to be the husband and wife we needed to be.  I also believe that it is because we were able to make sure that we had this time that we were able to be better parents.  We had time for us to be unified in heart and mind when it came to life and the kids.  This may not be your kind of music but I encourage you to find whatever music you and your spouse enjoy turn the music on and then just spend time with the two of you.  No matter how many kids you have no matter what ages they are, you need your time together.  Because if you don’t have your time together now when your kids are grown up and gone you will have tons of time together and you may not know who you are spending time with.

What kind of music do you and your spouse enjoy listening to while you relax?  If you can’t answer that question then you need to find out.

The story goes that Chris Botti used to play for Sting while he was touring and they became great friends.  Well Sting seeing the talent that Chris had continued to encourage him to go out play on his own.  Chris not feeling that he would be able to do that kept staying on playing with Sting.  Until at some point Sting said, “If your not going to do it on your own then I will just have to fire you.” Now that is what I had heard and I am not sure if this is totally true but is does cause me to think.  Do you have people that believe in you so much that they are willing to FIRE you.  Ok, maybe they can’t fire you but do you have someone that believes in you that much.  We each need to have someone that sees that much in us.  Who is that person in your life today?  Take the time to enjoy Sting and Chris Botti perform a great song called “Seven Days”.

It is amazing to me that everyday we have the capacity to love and to hurt people.  We are able to use the hands that the Lord has given to us to hinder or help.  I pray that each and everyday that we seek to use our hands to love people to the place where they see Jesus.  May we see each day as an opportunity to use our hands to love God and love others.

Had the awesome opportunity to see the guys a couple of times.  Great guys and I love the message of this song.  May we all live a life of “I will GO!”

Creative Worship

I find myself lately being more and more sensitive to what does it mean to “worship”.  For most of the western culture it is what we do on Sunday morning before we go home and watch sports where the “real worship” happens.  It is also seems “worship” is tied to the music that we sing, whether hands are lifted up in the air, or if it is from a book of songs, or on a projector.  We have created such a christian culture of worship that I wonder if we are really worshipping at all.  What if worship was the way that you spent your day?  What if worship was the job that you went to everyday?  What if worship was being the dad or mom that your kids so desperately need and want?  What if . . .

As I read this last week in the book “Primal” this statement really has been bouncing around in my heart: “Have you ever noticed how many times Psalms tells us to sing a new song? That creative command is repeated no fewer then half a dozen times.  Evidently God gets tired of old songs.  He doesn’t just want you to worship Him with your memory; He wants you to worship Him with your imagination. Love isn’t repetitive. Love is creative.  As love grows you need new lyrics and new melodies.  You need a new song to express new dimensions of love.”

What if the new song that you were to write was with your life?  What if the notes where the actions of your day?  What it the song was the way that your life impacted another’s and that life then impacted another and became strong along through out the week like the notes on a page.  As I continue to walk through my life I wonder am I more living, loving, or worshipping God out of what I have already experienced compared to what I could experience.  The question that I have chewing on is “What if worshipping God was less about the song and note. And more about the action and heart that came with life?  What if we were able to use our imagination to see worship more outside of the hour on Sunday and more about the other 24 hours that we spent living life?

May you today live a life of creative and imaginative worship through out your day.

I am so excited I am going to be in Colorado this week.  Taking another step to be starting Elevation Christian Church in Aurora.  As we have been praying, preparing, and pushing this song has been one of the rallying cries we have held close to our heart.  I hope you enjoy this song that you will listen to the words and know that this is what we see for Aurora.

Where do you see God at work around you?  What are you going to join Him there? Take some steps this week to doing what God has called you to do in your City.

Habakkuk 1:5 (NLT) “The Lord replied, “Look at the nations and be amazed! Watch and be astounded at what I will do! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.”

Music Monday

Ok, so I have to say that I love the music that Hillsong shares with the rest of us.  They are definitely making the big C church better off with the amazing worship music that they write and perform.  If you listen to worship music and think that is nice but I would never really listen to that during the week, that is just church music.  Well, this is not your average church music.

I want you to know that this is the kind of music that I pray we are able to have at Elevation and I know that the man that God is bringing to share his talent with us as a church is a Godly man.  I know that we are all so excited to not just start a church but be part of a REVOLUTION!

Here is a song that my son brought to my attention by Toby Mac.  I love the urgency behind what he is saying “Tonight is the Night”.  It is my hope and prayer that we as God’s people see the urgency to sharing about what it means to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I just love this guys music.  Michelle and I were even able to go and see him on our Anniversary last year, he is a great entertainer and I appreciate the lyrics that he has in his music as well as the way that he sings the standards.  Just some fun music that we all enjoy as a family.  Michael Buble is family music at the Bloyer house, you might find it blaring as we sit down at the table for dinner, when Danielle is doing homework, or when we get the chance to sit out on the patio enjoying evening.  Hope you enjoy.

What an awesome thing to be a part of last night. The  global concert of U2 shown on Youtube and in conversation with Twitter.  This is just another way to showcase what technology can do and how we can leverage that technology to reach the world.  May we someday be able to do the same as U2 has done with this concert as we share with the world the gospel of Jesus Christ.  By the way U2 rocked the house.

By the way notice the choice of song?  Can you say Elevation!  I thought you could.

Paul Wright & Rootdown

So this last Friday we had Paul Wright and Rootdown play at our church for a very intimate concert.  They were full of energy and they did a great job of making the students and families at the concert feel special.  You would have never know how many people were in the building.  Which I did as I watched ticket sales.  But they were there to share the love of Christ with the people that were there and they made the night awesome.  Why?  How can I say that?

First as a Dad my kids love Paul and the guys they can not wait to hang around them.  These guys make the people around them so comfortable and they are FUN.  They don’t take themselves and what they do so serious that they can’t enjoy the people around them.  That is something that I have to say I love about these guys.

Second as a Pastor to Students the kids of our church want to have these guys around.  This last concert was a younger crowd and I have to say that it worked out great because the came back to church on Sunday with a new excitement for being a part of the student ministry.  They saw that you can have fun in a worship sense and they were acting that way Sunday.  Thanks to the guys for leading our students in this way.

Finally as a friend I am so encouraged to know that these guys are out their touring and sharing their gifts and talents.  I am so proud of the men that they are and the way that they are serving Jesus in what they do.  I pray that that everyone who gets to hear these guys or just hang out with these guys are able to to catch a glimpse of what it means to serve Jesus with all that you are and who you are.  Thanks guys for a great night.

There are some songs out there that I think that are really great at challenging me to think about who I am and how I live my life.  This is one of those songs take some time to listen as well as watch, then think about how does your life reflect the lyrics.  Have a great day.

Brandon Heath “Give me your Eyes” what a great song to cause us to think about how the way we live our life is a reflection of what we believe about Jesus and who He is to the people around us.

Why would you try a church?

One of the things that I am always wondering is why would people try a church.  So I made a small and not very varied poll asking the question what would cause you to try out a church.  If there is anything else that you would like to share with me when it comes to your answers then please send me a message or make a comment.

Singing in the Shower!

First day of summer break and I catch my youngest daughter Morgan singing in the shower.  It is awesome to hear her sing but it was hilarious to get caught while making the video.

Pretty awesome that she loves to sing worship songs in the shower.  She even extends grace to her crazy dad for making a video of her singing.  I love my kids.

Church should be about life change!

LivE worship & relevant biblical teaching are a catalyst for life change

I believe that one of the things that should matter most to a church is that lives are changed.  I believe that life change can happen through many different ways.  But I believe that it happens most often when the body of Christ gets together.  I believe it happens most when people are excited about what is going to happen in the gathering of the church.  I believe it happens most when people know that when they get together that God is going to be worshipped and that the Gospel message is going to be shared.  I believe it happens most when the church gathers together and sees life change happen in the gathering.  Now I know there are people that are going to say well that is a nice idea but that just is not true that just does not happen today.

Well, if you are a person that says that then I want you to know then you have a problem with the Bible.  As I read through the Bible it happens a lot in fact it happens so often that through out the book of Acts they start to keep track of all the people that respond.  Acts 1:15 (NLT) “120 believers were present”, Acts 2:41 (NLT) “and added to the church about three thousand that day,” Acts 2:47 (NLT) “And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved.”

Nothing has changed from that time until now except the people of the church.  I believe that this can, does, and will happen.  By the authority of the Bible I believe that live worship and relevant biblical teaching is the catalyst to life change.  We are not going to be a church where we are there to be silent.  We don’t do that at a football game.  Why should we at church?  We don’t do that at a party.  Why should we at church?  My prayer and vision for our gatherings are that they will be exciting and alive.  That our gatherings will be a place that people are excited to come too.  That the men of the families will not have drug problems.  They will not be DRUG to church by their families. That they will not leave skid marks from the parking lot to inside. That these gatherings will be a place where people run head on into the saving message of Jesus Christ.  We are going to be unapologetic about Jesus and that through the gospel message lives will be changed.

What do you think about church and the services that you have gone too?
